Musical Theatre Singalong Series

The Musical Theatre Singalong Series is a chance for musical theatre lovers to gather together and sing through a musical, just because. No rehearsals, no performances – just sharing in the joy of singing musical theatre together.

I will share an open call on social media a few weeks before the event inviting anyone who would like to participate to fill out a brief signup form. On the form, I ask about your knowledge of the musical, how comfortable you are reading music, your general range or voice part, and what roles you are interested in. One or two weeks before the event, I will “cast” the show.

  • For lead and featured roles, I select folks based on their preferred roles, their experience performing the show, and how well they know the show. Depending on how many people sign up to participate, I often cast multiple people to share the larger lead roles.
  • Featured ensemble roles are open to anyone who expresses interest and I do my best to select small solo features based on your identified voice part and knowledge of the show.
  • The ensemble is open to anyone who wishes to sing with no requirements about experience, knowledge of the show, ability to read music, or anything else!

About a week before the event, I will provide all singalong participants with a cast list, the particular recording of the show we will use at the singalong, and a link to lyrics for the event. If permission can be secured to share a score for the musical, that will be made available as well. At the singalong, we will be using backing tracks created from this identified recording and identified soloists will sing their solos, and everyone who attends is welcome to sing as part of the ensemble. The app I use to create backing tracks also allows me to turn the vocals up and down as needed so I can best support singers.

There is a suggested donation of $10 to participate in a singalong series event. This helps me cover any expenditures related to hosting the event. I do not want cost to ever dissuade someone from participating, though, so if you wish to attend but can’t afford the $10, please come anyway!
